New recipes at TasteOfCuba.com, home to the largest collection of Cuban recipes on the web and the best directory of Cuban restaurants in the U.S. The holidays were great, I got a gift of a few loaves of fresh Cuban bread from the Cuban Food Market website and made some excellent sandwiches with slow roasted pork.
New recipes have been added to all five categories this month, this promises to be one of the best updates to the site ever. For appetizers, we have a Cuban classic: Papas Rellenas. I can’t tell you how many emails I get asking for a recipe to these deep-fried potatoes stuffed with Cuban-seasoned ground beef, so I’m glad to finally offer a recipe for this classic dish. If you’re looking for a tasty soup, try the sopa de cabeza de pescado (fish head’s soup). This recipe is courtesy of Pepe from the Cuban Cooking Club on Yahoo, who assures that it tastes much better than it sounds.
In the main dishes section, we have a new recipe for Bacán, which hails from Baracoa in Northeast Cuba. A green banana mixture with coconut milk, annatto, lime and garlic is stuffed with well seasoned pork and cooked in banana leaves. It’s also great with stewed crab or other smoked meats, an excellent recipe. Wash that down with a Platino Havana from the drinks section, a Cuban cocktail consisting of fruit juices and aged rum. For the final, exciting recipe, we have an addition to the desserts. The Mojito cake offers the rich flavors of lime, mint, rum and pineapple in a mouth-watering confection topped with a delicious frosting and coconut sprinkles. There’s even a photo of the cake on the recipe page, but don’t look at it unless you plan on getting hungry!
Stay tuned for next month’s update, as well as changes to the Cuban restaurant directory. Let a friend know about the site so they can sign up for updates, too!
