The Cuban community of Las Terrazas in the province of Pinar del Río is a rural zone with incredible attractive for ecotourism, and for visitors who find in nature a source of pleasure. This is a privileged destination. People who come here do so for several interests: scientific, adventure and sport, recreation, culture, etc.
It’s a wonderful location for those interested in Cuban wildlife, and it’s a leading example of ecotourism in Cuba as it encourages responsible travel to natural areas preserving the environment and improving the welfare of its local people.
This locality in the Sierra of Rosario was declared an UNESCO biosphere reserve in 1985 and it is a natural habitat of exuberant flora and endemic animals, including some precious bird species like the Cuban national bird, the Tocororo, whose plumage has the same colours as the Cuban flag; the Tomeguín del Pinar and the Zunzun, one of the smallest birds I’ve ever seen. You will be amazed with the colourful flora and fauna of this special place, so don’t forget to bring your camera along!
