Not sure if this is the right Forum, but it seems as good as any…

I’m looking for long-term (one to two years) volunteer position in Cuba.  I speak Spanish at a conversational level and am hoping to become fluent.  I have experience working with youth with mental health and addiction issues.

Any suggestions on where to start, or what I might be able to do before I get there?

but I think you need to be a Cuban citizen to work in those positions. You will need all kinds of paperwork and permissions from the Cuban government. It is not a free country. EVERYTHING is run by the state so you can’t just go there and work or volunteer. You will need to have your lodging all set up before you arrive.

Thanks for the info!  I’m still trying to figure things out (and if this is even a plausible idea)...I have a Cuban friend, who’s not too savvy in this stuff, so it’s helpful to bounce ideas of someone who has a broader perspective. =)
