why? I live in south florida and see the “viva bush” bumper stickers, and I wonder to myself….why? What did the president do to gain your support.

just wondering…..

Not much, but he says the “right things,” what certain people want to hear. . .  wink

Politics is 90% emotional. Push the right buttons and you’ll get a vote, LOL!

The Republican Party is probably secretly hoping that Castro will live another 10-15 years. Status quo is actually good for BOTH sides.

Well, he’ limited visitation rights to once every 3 years FOR IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS ONLY; no uncles and cousins, please!

Also, more limits on $$ amounts with the remittances.

For some folks, that is considered “progress” in terms of their agendas/goals (which is to punish Castro no matter what, even if it hurts the islanders directly or indirectly).

Sad world you say? You don’t know the HALF of it, LOL!  wink

see this is what i thought too, i read about all this before yet when i sit down at the diner table with my girlfriend and her family on sunday (who are all from….that’ right cuba) i have to endure the older brother chanting (a grown man i must add) “four more years” and the table getting all loud with pro bush retorhic. I don’t dare debate cause….well…i am just a suitor dont wanna get on pops bad side by letting him and his family know i think their politics are backwards. just wanted to see if i was missing something. what i get is that yes politics are 90% percent emotions and cubans are 200% passion…so it seems to all make sense now.

thanks

ps. if anyone thinks im missing something please feel free to let me know

Oh man, dude. I’m really worried about you now, LOL!  grin

Bail out while you still can! You could be making a HUGE mistake! Remember, if you marry this girl, you will have to deal with this even more and for as long as the marriage lasts. You’re much better off importing a good colombiana than marrying a cubana. Yes, they’re very passionate and wonderful lovers; but if you’re 100% Yankee, which is what I suspect, then you’re going to be marrying into all this drama, baggage, and dysfunction. . . which has been going on for over 40 years on BOTH sides of the Florida straits!!  Think about that buddy! Take it from someone who almost made the same mistake. . .  wink

Bush mainly got support from the elder Cubans who’ one track minded thinking traveled down to their “isolated from Cuba” children who know, know better.

I hgave seen those stickers but at the same time have seen the No More BuSHit stickers.

But no sticker is going to change a damn thing!

The man is in power til 2008 and all we can do is pray for time to go by very fast.

Now,about your Cuban girlfriend and her family,if I was you I would tell them how and what you feel about Cuban issues, whether they like it or not!

To lie (as every American has been lied to) will only make things worse when the truth is revealed.

They can either accept you or not,if they dont, than you dont need them!

I myself was born here to Cuban parents,my parents way of thinking is not what I believe in,I made up my own mind when visiting Cuba and nobody can change that.

You know this topic is actually getting old and stale, same old conversation going on with no change.

All I can end this post with is this and perhaps you may understand where I am coming from?

You cannot fight bad with bad,nor evil with evil, because in the end bad and evil will win no matter what!

The US has NOT been tackling Cuban issues with any good in mind for over 40 years!

Enough Said!

To DRobledo-
My goodness, man, you seem to have had quite a negative experience with a Cubanita.  This is two posts now where you’ve warned against all the “baggage” that cuban women have.
Just want to make sure that nobody thinks that’ the only side of the reality.  I guess every conversation about Cuba really is polarized… wink

To Loubez-
The Republicans are seen as the hard-liners, and it would be hard to find a more hard-lined group than the old cubanos.
I have never personally been to Florida, but I know that in Cuba if you’d held a vote for US Pres, Kerry would’ve overwhelmingly won.  Maybe others would disagree but I’ve done my own informal study…

Actually, my experience was relatively positive compared to others. But here’ an anecdote that occured on a visit after I ended my brief fling. . . I met another young lady over there who made it pretty plain she was willing to offer her “companionship” to me. I found out from a mutual acquaintance that she has an Italian husband who happened to be away, working very hard to pay for her visa and clear the way for her to live in Italy.

I decided to decline her gracious offer because I don’t like to commit adultery. Need I say more. . .?  wink

And BTW, the other post referred to a man since it was a Canadian woman who was asking for info/advice. My point is that if you ain’t Cuban, you may not realize in time what exactly you could be getting into, LOL! Eyes wide open people!  grin

I definitely understand where you’re coming from.  I think it’ very relevant that the woman you were dealing with was a jinetera.  For anyone reading this, that’ jinetero/as are Cubans who trade “companionship” for some form of payment or amusement.  Very common for turists in Havana, unfortunately.  So I agree, people should not be naive, the y should be warned that this goes on.  But let’ at least admit that there’ a possibility of honest relationships in Cuba…

Oh yeah, of course. In my brief relationship, the girl was definitely not a jinetera. It didn’t work out for other reasons: me being a Yuma, and she working in public health. But the more I learn about this country, the more I think it was probably a good thing the relationship didn’t last too long or went anywhere. . .  wink

LOL @ D.

im puerto rican…I love my girlfriends family, I was just looking to see if there was any logic behind their blind support for W (i never really thought there was).

and as far as trading a cubana for a columbiana…no way, been there, take a cubana any day of the week.
