26th International Festival of New Latin American Film Set to Get Underway
Havana, December 1 (RHC)—The 26th International Festival of New Latin
American Film will get underway next week in Havana with nearly 70 fictional
movies, 28 documentaries and 27 animated films—not to mention
retrospectives, tributes and specials.
From December 7th through the 17th, thousands will line up at movie theaters
across the island to view the films in competition for the annual prizes.
Argentina will bring the largest number of films to this year’ festival; of
the total of 21 full-length features, Argentina will submit eight. Brazil,
Colombia, Chile and the United States are also submitting films—as well
as Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay and Venezuela.
Havana’ 26th annual film fiesta will pay tribute to the centennial
anniversaries of Pablo Neruda, Alejo Carpentier and Maria Zambrano with the
projection of films and documentaries based on these great literary and
philosophical figures. Retrospectives will be dedicated to Mexican Felipe
Cazals, with nine of his films, and French director Francois Truffaut, with
seven of his classics.
