I am Cuban and I have lived in the US since 1996. My book A Girl like Che Guevara has just been published by Soho Press. I wrote it in English because I noticed, after the return to Cuba of Elián Gonzalez, that a vast sector of the American audience was still unaware of the island’s realities. Through the main character’s eyes, the reader sees the brainwashing suffered by Cuban children and teenagers, who should repeat every day that they “will be like Che.” It also deals with the racism, that, despite the government’ claims, hasn’t disappeared from Cuba. There are references to episodes like the repudiation acts which took place during the Mariel boatlift.

I wrote another novel, this time in Spanish, about four generations of Cuban women living in the same house, and their misadventures during a “programmed blackout” night. Posesas de La Habana (The Possessed Women of La Habana) was published by PurePlay Press and will be in the bookstores this June.  I’d appreciate any comments or feedback about any of them.

A Girl Like Che Guevara, was such a fantastic book, it inspired me for the purpose of my tutorial (the undergraduate equvilant to a dissertation). I was wondering if it possible to interview the author once my thesis is more developed.
