This report, New Castro, Same Cuba, from Human Rights Watch is discouraging. Despite the impressive advances in Cuba in health care, literacy, medicine/biotechnology, race awareness, women’s rights, etc, this report makes it clear that in the area of human rights the record of the Cuban government is bleak. Especially frightening is the charge of “dangerousness” which allows authorities to imprison individuals before they have committed a crime, on the suspicion that they might commit an offense in the future.
