My daughter just arrived home from 3 months in Singapore and met a Cuban musician there. He asked her to marry him and like a silly fool, she is flying back after only 2 weeks at home to marry him. As a mother, you can imagine how frantic this has made me and all her family and we are trying desperately to talk her out of it.
He told her that his contract is up at the end of March and he will have to return to Cuba and he fears he won’t be able to leave again. Somehow they think by getting married, that piece of paper is going to make it ok for them to travel wherever they want. I would like to to present her with some real, hard facts if possible.
My question is, how are Cubans getting all these jobs in Asia. There seems to be many Cuban musicians over there. What kind of visa/passport are they traveling on. Do they all return? What happens if they don’t go back.
My daughter is Australian, what are her rights if she travels back to Cuba with him?
This is really distressing me as she knows nothing about this boy and I want to stop this marriage before she makes a huge mistake. Any advice will be helpful as I’m not familiar with Cuban culture or laws at all. I have lived in Venezuela for 3 years and do speak some spanish..that’s about it.
