“Les Fiancés,” a painting by the Cuban master Wifredo Lam sold for 3 million dollars at Art Basel Miami Beach, minutes after the show opening. This is a new price record for Wifredo Lam, surpassing the 2.15 million dollar record reached less than a month ago.

The buyer of “Les Fiancés” is a distinguished Cuban art collector who preferred to remain anonymous.

Ramón Cernuda, director of Cernuda Arte, the gallery that sold “Les Fiancés” stated to the press, “We congratulate the buyer of Les Fiancés
for his vision and great taste. The work is an icon of Cuban art, and one of the best paintings by Wifredo Lam. We are so pleased that Les Fiancés will be part of an illustrious collection.”

The value of Lam’s works appreciates very fast. This year the price record was beaten three times: In May, when Wifredo Lam’s, Sur les traces, was sold at Sotheby’s for 1.42 million dollars; on November 16, when his piece, Les Abalochas danesent pour Dhambala, dieu de l’unité, sold for 2.15 million dollars in New York Sotheby’s house sale of Latin American art, and the most recent price record - 3 million dollars for Les Fiances sold during Art Basel Miami Beach.
