The four plus hour epic “Che” movie will open in Los Angeles and New York on December 12. It will be split into two parts and released to a wider audience in January.

Benecio del Toro stars as “La Revolution” hero Che Guevara. The first part of the film is 129 minutes and titled “The Argentine” and the second part is 128 minutes and titled “Guerilla”. There will be a 30 minute intermission between the two parts and each part will be treated as a separate movie with separate admissions.

The film will be distributed nationally in the top twenty five markets starting January 16, 2009.

The President of IFC Films Jonathan Sehring calls the movie “Che” to an “event” to be experienced and claims that “Steven Soderbergh has delivered one of our generation’s true epic films featuring an absolutely brilliant performance by Benicio Del Toro as one of the most fascinating figures in our history”.

Furthermore, the Cuban government have given the film its approval to be shown in Cuba after review and approval that the film did not depict Fidel Castro in a negative light.

Steven Soderbergh and Benecio del Toro will have to get permission from the US Treasury Department in order to travel to Cuba to see the screening of their film.

I highly doubt it will be shown in Miami.  When “Sicko” came out, you had to travel to either Aventura or South Miami to see the movie——it just wasn’t showing anywhere within the city of Miami.  Years back when I tried to rent “Motorcycle Diaries” at a Blockbuster in Miami, I was told they didn’t have it because they “wanted to avoid problems.”
