Coach Ted Levin says members of the Connecticut Valley South Little League plan to play 12 to 14 games in the Havana area in August.

After 20 months and several failed attempts, Levin says he’s been granted a travel license for the team from the U.S. Treasury Department.

U.S. travel to Cuba has been restricted since 1961.

Coach John Carey, a Dartmouth College professor who is a Latin American expert, says the only similar trip was by a California team in 2000.

Levin credited Vermont’s congressional delegation, Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie, and Florida businessman John Parke Wright IV, who organized the sale of Vermont cattle to Cuba, for helping to get the travel license.
