I watched this short CNN video about how “green” and environmentally friendly Cuba is. Green in the sense that people walk to work and have to grow their own food and how forward thinking Cuba is. She makes no mention about all the air and water pollution in Cuba. Really a shameful video that should be shown at Granma.cu.
Shasta, have a better look around and then give us another report.
Then there is this other idiot from a CNN video who says the the Special Period was good for the Cuban people because they ate less and rode bikes more.

That’s the only kind of reporters that the Cuban government would allow in Cuba. The good journalists are normally thrown out of Cuba by the government.

Shameful ass kissing sycophant. There are some good things in Cuba but being “green” is not a choice. Farmers use oxen because the government keeps them poor.

on an every day level that you can see how “green’ cuba is, just take a look at the exhausts of the cars and trucks on the road .....

One thing to have in mind, however, is what the report is about: It is not about the government in Cuba, but about some actions that Cubans do in order to survive. These same actions are beneficial for the environment, and people from many countries (including the US) could learn a bit. Take, for example, the level of obesity of the American population. How about walking more, and drive - pollute less.

Nice try Fidel.
Nothing happens in Cuba without the Cuban government’s approval or at least knowledge which means consent.
So, my opinion remains unchanged.

I respect your opinion (without calling you anything), but while I lived in Cuba I worked with an environmental agency, founded by the United Nations; so I know that there are programs for the conservation of nature and to solve pollution problems caused by main industries in Cuba.
I think that not every article coming out of Cuba should be of the BIG story. That’s why there is so much ignorance about the Cuban reality.
My respects.

Thanks for the reply but this is obviously a fluff piece. I don’t mind defending Castro when he actually does something good but this reporter is obviously just kissing ass to stay in Cuba or get in good with high ranking officials.
You should watch the video by CNN reporting how the Special Period was good for Cubans because they ate less and “exercised more” by riding bikes to work.
All friends of Castro are welcome to leave their opinions but I won’t tolerate fained ignorance, especially if someone is working for the Cuban government (of which we have had plenty come through here).

That’s very interesting, because the CNN video does NOT talk positively about the Cuban government. It talks about consequences of the Special Period (which I suffered too when I was in Cuba), and good consequences too.
Riding a bicycle, for whatever reason, is beneficial, and I would like to see information saying the contrary.
I am not friend of Castro, and it is very unfortunate that you call someone that, or say that they work for the Cuban goverment, just because they don’t share your points of view.
I know for personal experience how Cubans suffered and still suffer in the island. Anyone would be blind or stupid saying that it was good to have a Special Period, and that is not what the report says.
My respects
