Cuban rowers travel to Mexico for Club Espana Cup

A Cuban team of 10 rowers left Havana for Mexico on Monday to compete in the Club Espana Cup, part of their preparationof the 20th Central American and Caribbean Games, due in Colombian city of Cartagena.

Team manager Wilfredo Fernandez said that the team would remain in Mexico for 21 days to train in the high altitude.

He said that Cuba had come to win the May 21 to 22 competition, and also the Games, which take place in July. Mexico will host rowing competition for the Games.

The heavyweight rowers are Yoennis Hernandez, Yuleidis Cascaret, Dioglis Abat, Janier Conception, Angel Fournier and Mayra Gonzalez. The lightweights are Eyder Batista, Juior Perez, Manuel Cascaret and Andy Guiarinu.

The Central American and Caribben Games has 18 Olympic rowing events, and allows each country to send 12 men and eight women to compete.
