Cuban baseball Group B Industriales completed its second straight sweep by defeating Cienfuegos 5-4 on Thursday, ratifying itself as the team with most wins (33) in the 45th National Baseball Series.

The Havana Lions or Havana Blue Ones, as they are popularly dubbed, came from a three-run deficit on the eighth inning to score four times and take the lead.

However, Cienfuegos fought back and levelled the game in the following inning.

Industriales managed to load the bases in the ninth before third baseman Dioelsis Linares singled in the game-winner

Lefthander Arleys Sanchez was the winner, while Cienfuegos lefthander Yosvani Perez, who pitched seven solid innings, was nevertheless the loser.

Industriales outfielder Carlos Tabares batted two hits to take his streak to 25 consecutive games, closing in on Rey Isaac´s all-time record of 35.

It has won eight straight games and now amasses 33 wins and 15 losses, to command the Group ahead of La Habana province, which beat Sancti Spiritus 5-3 to also complete a sweep.

Ace righthander Yadier Pedroso was dominant during eight innings by striking out five although he allowed Yulieski Gourriel´s 14th homer in the series.

Other leaders that swept their rivals were Group A Isle of Youth and Group C Villa Clara.

The Isle of Youth drubbed Group A underdog Matanzas 13-7, backed by Michel Enriquez´ wild offensive (four hits), and Juan Carlos Moreno, who went 2 for 2 and drove in three runs.

Matanzas has lost 12 games in a row.

Villa Clara, which on Tuesday was one game behind Las Tunas, now commands that group because it won the three-game set against the then leader.

Players will have days off until Sunday, when the All-Star Game will be held.

Industriales´ manager Rey Vicente Anglada, considered to be one of the best second basemen in the history of the national series, and Granma´s Marcos Fonseca, were selected to direct the Western and Eastern stars, respectively.
