New Biotechnology Facilities in Cuba

New biotechnological facilities to produce the elements used to make vaccines were inaugurated in Cuba this month.

One of the plants will produce the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) to make six kinds of vaccines.

The pharmaceutical ingredients will be used to make vaccines against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, hepatitis B and the Haemophilus influenzae type B.

Another plant was built at the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center and will produce the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient to make the vaccine against the Haemophilus influenzae.

In addition, a pilot plant will produce the clinical trials that will guarantee de APIs that will be used in a therapeutic vaccine against lung cancer.

Experts are working to duplicate the production capacity of the AICA Pharmaceutical Laboratories, which produce vials, eye drops, aerosols and other medications.
