Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, hosted a scientific conference on the Cuban-made synthetic vaccine against the Hemophilus influenzae.

The meeting, sponsored by Samsuridjal Djauziel, director of the Dharmais Cancer Hospital, was attended by some 20 executives from local pharmaceutical companies.

Authorities from universities, hospitals and research centers, and officials from the Indonesian Health Minister participated in the meeting.

Dr. Vicente Verez Bencomo briefed participants on the process to produce the vaccine, created by a working team that he heads at the University of Havana.

He said that the antigen, marketed under the brand Quimihib, has just been incorporated into Cuba’s vaccination program, which immunizes children against 13 diseases.
