The Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center, in the Cuban capital, is hosting a major exhibition this month on abstractionism in Cuban culture.
The exhibit, entitled “Mayo Abstracto” (Abstract May), is made up of paintings, photos, sculptures and artworks created by 32 artists from different generations and trends.
Abstractionism became a trend in Cuba in the 1950s, when the so-called Group of 11 was founded, said experts, adding that new abstract trends have emerged in recent years on the Island.
The artists, pointed out the experts, focus on the free expansion of the human spirit to zones that have not been explored by mind and reason, and capture viewers’ imagination.
On this occasion, abstractionism provides a varied collection of artworks that refresh the panorama of Cuban visual arts, the specialists added.

Cuba is open to every country. Just that one country stops its citizens from going there. Why don’t you ignore the stupid embargo and go?
