Havana.- The Irakere Jazz Club, also known as the Cuban Jazz House, opened in this capital to promote that musical genre.

The facility is housed in the formerly-known Rio Club and will promote the work of the best Cuban and foreign jazz musicians.

The establishment will be one of the subvenues of Havana’s International Jazz Plaza Festival, which will be held on an annual basis as of December.

Jam Sessions will be held every Monday, with performances by renowned musicians such as Cesar Lopez, Jose Miguel Crego, Jose Luis Cortes and Feliciano Arango, among others.

On Saturdays and Sundays, young jazz players awarded at the JoJazz Festival will perform at the Irakere Jazz Club, while the so-called “Santa Amalia’s Afternoons” will be held on Wednesdays.

Renowned poets and pianists will perform on Fridays, in the so-called “Love and Jazz” sessions.
