Havana.- The Wifredo Lam Center, in the Cuban capital, will host an exhibit by the renowned Spanish artist Antoni Tapies, born in Barcelona.

The exhibit consists of 20 engravings and lithographs that will be shown in Cuba thanks to the artist’s kindness, the Lelong Gallery of Paris, and the Brownstone Foundation.

Tapies’s work is permeated by existentialist philosophy and western esthetics, both of which nourished many of his artworks, characterized by his imaginative freedom, which made him reject academic trends.

According to critics, Tapies evolves to abstractionism, and resorted to mix techniques that allowed him to experiment with materials that are usually considered poor and ephemeral.

He resorts to lithography within an expressionist line in which symbols and gestures prevail, due to the avant-garde tradition, according to experts.
