Havana.- The Cuban capital is hosting the 6th International Havana Cigar Festival this month, dedicated to the promotion of that world-renowned product.

According to experts, the annual festival will be attended by members of smokers’ clubs, craftspeople and collectors from all over the world.

The corporation Habanos S.A., which sponsors the event, will give participants the chance to learn about the conditions in which the world-famous cigars are made, and about the ritual of lighting and smoking a cigar.

During the festival, Cuba will open up its factories and tobacco plantations so that participants can receive first-hand knowledge about tobacco crops and cigar rolling, two economic activities that are part of Cuban culture and have a five-century-old history.

The event will host the Whiskey and Cigar Challenge contest, whose winner will be chosen by the vote of some 300 experts, who will decide on the most suggestive proposal among several brands of cigars and whiskeys.

The program will also include lectures on “The World of Luxury”, “The Historic Link between San Cristobal de La Habana and Havana Cigars”, and “The Presence of Cigars in Literature and Cinema”.
