Havana.- Cuban musician Ibrahim Ferrer won the 2004 Grammy Award in the category of best traditional music.

Ferrer won the Grammy for his CD “Buenos Hermanos”, in a category that also included other Cuban nominees: Amadito Valdes (Bajando Gervasio), Guillermo Rubalcaba (Pasado y Presente), Septeto Nacional Ignacio Piñeiro (Poetas del Son) and Barbarito Torres (Barbarito Torres).

The Cuban musicians were nominated in eight categories of this year’s Grammy Awards, whose ceremony was held at the Staples Center.

Released in May 2003, “Buenos Hermanos” combines traditional music with new sonorities, and features Alabama’s Blind Boys.

“Buenos Hermanos” was named after a song written by Miguel Matamoros in 1934, and features bassist Orlando “Cachaíto” Lopez and guitarist Manuel Galbán, as guest stars.
