More Cuban Athletes Qualify for Athens 2004 Olympics

Havana.- Cuba won four other qualifications for the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, this year, thus increasing the number of qualified athletes to 108.

Three free-style wrestlers qualified for the summer games at a tournament held in Bratislava, Slovakia, where athletes from 60 countries competed.

Alexis Rodríguez (in the free-style category) and Rene Montero (55 kg) won one gold medal each, while Iván Fundora (74 kg) won a bronze medal.

Angel Volodia Matos, tae kwon do Olympic champion in Sydney’2000, qualified for Athens’2004 after finishing third in a tough tournament held in Queretaro, Mexico.

Cuba expects to qualify 170 athletes in several sports for the summer games in the Greek capital.
