Cuba will show the results of the previous ten years regarding the fulfillment of its environmental compromises, when inaugurating the 2nd International Seminar “Complejidad La Habana’2004”.

In the Conventions Center, 300 experts from America, Europe and Africa will corroborate why the Island was, in 2003, venue of the 6th Conference of the Parties of the UN Convention on Desertification, the most important ecologist event held in The Antilles in last years.

Experts will show Cuban advances in science, technology and sustainability, main topics of the First International Convention on those fields was held last year in the capital.

In the opening session they will closely know the positive development of the Island in the implementation of the program to preserve biological diversity, considered among the most integral ones of the Latin Americana and the Caribbean regions.

Projects to control air, water and soil pollution, the study of fragile ecosystems of mountains and coasts and the restoring actions in hydrographic yields, where the contamination was reduced some 10 percent during the previous decade, also stand out.

There are eights of these areas of national priority, including the Cauto river, benefited with a multi-sector program awarded in the World Summit on Sustainable Development, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in the summer of 2002.

The ” Paralelo” workshop on biologic complex systems, that will center its debates on scientific topics of

health, biotechnology, neurosciences and other fields in which Cuba shows valuable contributions, will be inaugurated in the afternoon.
