Havana.- Cigarmakers in central Villa Clara province expect to produce 15,000 cigars for export in 2003.

According to experts, that amount is higher in two million than the sector’s plan for this year.

Villa Clara produces all Cuban cigar brands for export, including Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta and Cohiba, which are highly demanded and priced in the international market.

Villa Clara’s cigar production will generate revenues of 15 million dollars this year, two million dollars above the plan.

Among the efficiency parameters taken into consideration in all six cigar factories in Villa Clara is a reduction in the cost per peso, which dropped from 84 to 77 cents.

Nine Cuban provinces produce rolled cigars for exports, being Sancti Spiritus and Havana the most outstanding ones.
