Havana.- Eastern Ciego de Avila province was the best region at the 12th National Festival of Wines Produced Using Traditional Methods.
Ciego de Avila’s producers won five first awards in the categories of dry, semi-sweet, red, pink and white wines.

For its part, Villa Clara won the awards in the semi-dry and sweet wines categories, and was followed by Sancti Spiritus (sparkling and grape wines) and the City of Havana (vermouth).

The fast-growing development of the wine industry led to holding the festivals since November 1991 as a way to boost wine production in Cuba.

The quality of Cuban wines improves every year and a proof of this was the inclusion of three wine producers from the Caribbean Island in the International Wine Festival Expovid’2002, held in June of that year at Havana’s International Conference Center.
