Cigar aficionados, take heart! There’s a new place in Doral to buy your favorite stogie.

Sabor Havana, staking claim to being Florida’s largest cigar store with the widest selection of cigars and accessories, has opened for business. So, interrupt the day’s hustle and bustle with a cigarillo and a game of dominoes with friends at Sabor Havana Cigars’ relaxing oasis at 2600 NW 87th Ave.

“I think it is important that Doral has an area where people can come that is not a bar and not loud,” said co-owner Jorge Valdes. “A place to relax, sit back and smoke a cigar in a comfortable environment.”

“Size sets us apart,” said his partner Aquiles Legra. “There is no other store like this in Florida and the selection of cigars here is incredible.”

Sabor Havana stocks cigars that very few other retail shops elect to carry. The store is an official Opus X retailer, a limited production, and difficult-to-find cigar made in the Dominican Republic. The store also claims the most extensive selection of Padron Anniversario cigars in the state and it is well stocked with the most exclusive cigars in the industry.

No newcomers to the business, Valdes and Legra joined forces with wine connoisseur Jose Diaz to create the perfect business marriage—cigars and fine wine. Valdes and Legra, who own another cigar store in Kendall and who have individually owned several stores in the past, wanted a new concept for their Doral store, one that would bring together two of life’s greatest pleasures, cigars and wine. The business plan led the partners to join forces with Diaz, a former Southern Wine and Spirits sales associate who brought his experience and knowledge to bear on the wine selections they decided to carry.

“We have a wine and beer package license to sell it by the bottle,” said Valdes. “But, we will be trying to get a public hearing to obtain a license to sell wine and beer for consumption on the property.”

For the three owners, customer service is fundamental to return business. At Sabor Havana Cigars customers have complimentary coffee while shopping. A 42-inch plasma television set in the rear of the store and comfortable custom made smoking chairs make this the perfect place to sit and enjoy your purchase. A game of poker or dominoes is encouraged and tables are provided for customers who want to play a hand.

The large open space is accented by a high ceiling and finely appointed merchandise displays. Wood floors and leather chairs compliment the neutral colors giving the space an air of elegance and sophistication.

“We want to create a welcoming environment for our customers,” said Valdes. “We hope to put together wine tastings and cigar tastings at least every two or three months.”

I’m getting married 10/1/05 and was thinking of having a cigar roller at the reception.  Does anyone know where I can find one for a reasonable price in the Miami area?  Thanks. Grace B.

Hey, I just wanted to let you guys know that I loved you store! I was in town for Hurricane Wilma relief, and some of the MDPD guys led me and some friends to you shop. WOW!!! With the selection, personal service and other fine amenities you provide, I see why everyone recommends your shop. Do you have a web page to shop from? I tried to locate one, but this is as close as I could get. After coming home and passing out some of your cigars, I NEED MORE! Please let me know how to order from you!

Thanks for a great experience,

I had a cigar with a band labeled
‘Sabor Havana hand made Little Havana’
given to me in Miami a couple of years ago-it was excellent. I just discovered it’s not a brand but your store-any idea what cigar (and how much?) it was?
Red band, black outline, spade in the center of the band with Sabor Havana in the middle
