TAMPA, Fla. - New York Yankees pitcher Jose Contreras is set to make his first minor league start Thursday as part of his rehabilitation program for a right shoulder strain.
Contreras is scheduled to pitch in a Gulf Coast League game against the Phillies. It will be his first game in two months.

The former standout on the Cuban national team has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 7. The right-hander threw batting practice for the third time in five days Monday.

Contreras is expected to make several minor league rehab starts. He should rejoin the Yankees later this month.

Contreras signed a $32 million, four-year contract last winter. He is 3-1 with a 4.62 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 10 games with the Yankees this season.
