International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge said, after watching the opening ceremony of the Pan American Games, that Havana’s bid is just as strong as of the other cities bidding for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

“The nine cities have big possibilities”, said Rogge.
He added that “probably” the nine bid cities - London, Paris, New York, Madrid, Moscow, Istanbul, Havana, Rio de Janeiro and Leipzig will not be shortlisted as they are solid bids.

The shortlist was established to distinguish the cities that have the ability to organize Olympic Games from those cities whose bids needed more work, said Rogge.

Also, Rogge said that the future of baseball as an Olympic sport depends on the capacity of its leaders to show that it is a universal sport.
