Havana.- The National Museum of Fine Arts this month is hosting an exhibit dedicated to renowned Cuban artists of the so-called Group of 11.

The members of the group revolutionized Cuba’s visual arts 50 years ago, betting on abstractionism and shaking the capital’s artistic environment.

The playwright Abelardo Estorino, National Theater Award winner, who was closely linked to the group, said that they created a generational landmark and their art was alien to mercantilism, so only few people were interested in what they were doing.

In that regard, the renowned Cuban intellectual said that this tribute allows keeping special memories in Cuban visual arts alive.

The members of that vanguard group are Agustín Cárdenas, Antonio Vidal, Jose A. Díaz Peláez, Francisco Antigua, Rene Ávila, Hugo Consuegra, Fayad Jamís, Guido Llinás, Raúl Martínez, Tomás Oliva, Jose I. Bermúdez and Viredo Espinosa.
