Havana.- The largest Antillean Island leads Latin America in the field of kidney transplants, with 248 of such surgeries in 2002.

Experts from the Nephrology Institute pointed out that Cuba is among the top ten countries in the world regarding the number of kidney grafts per one million inhabitants.

Cuban patients’ survival rate is within the world’s average, in addition to the fact that treatment is free of charge and accessible to anyone.
As part of the health programs in force in Cuba, authorities are working to expand hemodialysis services, which are crucial for patients suffering from kidney failure.
