Cuba Finishes Second at World Boxing Championship

Havana.- The largest Antillean Island finished second by countries at the 12th World Boxing Championship, held in Thailand this month.

The Cuban team scored 40 points, only preceded by Russia with 44 points, and followed by Kazakhstan in the third place.

Both Russia and Cuba won three gold medals, but the Russian team got three silver medals, while Cuba won two silver and one bronze medals.
Mario Kindelán, Olympic champion in the 60-kg division in Sydney-2000, won his third world title in a row. He had won the world championships held in Houston in 1999 and Belfast in 2001.

In the 69-kg division, Lorenzo Aragon defeated Sherzod Husanov from Uzbekistan, and Odlanier Solís won his second world title in the 91-kg category.

The silver medallist was Pedro Carrion, who lost to Alexander Alexeiev, from Russia, in the 91-kg division.
