Leaders of National Olympic Committees from the Americas are meeting in San Antonio, Texas through the end of the week. The Pan American Sports Organization general assembly will include updates on preparations by Rio for the 2007 Pan Am Games, as well as the upcoming Athens Games.
Also on hand are representatives from nearly all of the nine cities hoping to bid for the 2012 Olympics.
Havana is the only one missing, unable to send any delegates to the PASO meeting due to visa complications, a recurring theme in the sport relations between the U.S. and Cuba. The absence of Cuba, one of the most important PASO members, from the annual assembly is believed to be a first.
