With an outstanding performance of its super heavy weigh Odlanier Solis, who won his third consecutive crown, Cuba recouped Sunday the World Boxing title in Miangyang, China, by winning four golds, one silver and three bronzes.

Under coach Sarbelio Fuentes, the Cuban boxers totalled 54 points to lead the competition, while reigning monarch Russia came behind with three gold and 41 points.

Cuban boxers Guillermo Rigondeaux (54kg), Yordenis Ugas (60), Erislandi Lara (69), and Solis (91 plus) wrapped up the gold medal, while Andry Laffita (51 kg) won the silver.

The Russian winners were Alexei Tischenko (57 kg), Matvey Korobov (75), and Alexander Alekseev (91), Alekseev winning in a no-show.

Twice Olympic and now three-time world champion, Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux secured his title by defeating German Rashimov Rustamhodza, 37-23.

For his part, Solis, also Olympic champion in Athens 2004, put a golden finishing touch to the performance of Cuban boxers in Mianyang be defeating 29-22 the strong Russian boxer Roman Romanshuk.
