Central Sancti Spiritus province has become a stronghold of the so-called na´ve painting in Cuba.

That artistic trend groups painters who do their work by intuition and do not have academic formation, and whose artwork is highly-priced in international art markets.

As part of the development of that cultural expression, the Provincial Art Center inaugurated an exhibition entitled “From Na´ve to Na´ve Treatment”.
The exhibition, according to experts, features the work of the most primitive painters from the province, who are grouped by trends and creative results.

One of the most outstanding painters is Armando Portieles (Caracusey), who has developed the countryside topic, recreated with the use of a wide range of formal and conceptual resources.

The experts said that the distinctive characteristics of na´ve artists are naivety, primitiveness and popular nature.
