Havana.- Cuba is hosting the 25th New Latin American Cinema Festival, which will have a broad program of activities throughout the country.

According to sources from the organizing committee, 45 feature-length motion pictures, 24 movies by first-time directors, 33 cartoon films and 97 unpublished scripts are competing on this occasion.

In addition to the City of Havana, the main venue of the festival, the annual cultural event will also take place in movie and video theaters in other provinces of the country.

Experts pointed out that the program also includes parallel film exhibitions from Germany, Spain and Italy, as well as US independent cinema, Japanese cartoons, Canadian short films and award-winning motions pictures at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

The 25th New Latin American Cinema Festival will also pay tribute to renowned figures such as the Greek filmmaker Costa Gavras, the Argentinean moviemaker Ricardo Aronovich and the Cuban film director Nelson Rodrguez.
