Havana - The number of university students in Cuba is estimated to increase to 325,000 in the 2004-05 academic year, said the president of the Cuban Students Association.
Students studying in Cuban universities and colleges reached a record of 310,000 in 1986. The figure dropped to around 73,000 in 1990s and has risen again in recent years.
All schooling in Cuba, including higher education, is free of charge. In addition to developing education in the country, Cuba also helps many countries in personnel training. At present, nearly 14,000 foreign students study in Cuban universities under cooperation programmes.
