The city of Cienfuegos, the capital of the province of the same name, will be the destination of sailboats that will depart from the French city of Saint Nazaire.

According to organizers of the event, the departure is scheduled for early April and the voyage is expected to end 20 days later.

So far, 13 competitors, whose boats are equipped with satellite communications and will sail on the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, have confirmed participation in the regatta.

In addition, arrivals of the sailboats at the Bay of Jagua will be known 10 hours in advance.

The facilities of the Puerto Sol Marina will welcome the sailboats and will guarantee supplies to the boats, while the TV network Cubavision Internacional will cover the arrival of competitors in Cuba.

On the final day of the voyage, the city will offer foreign visitors and local dwellers a show to pay tribute to the traditions of the cities that sponsored the regatta.

What an irony; French sailors racing to Cuba while the United States, “Home of the free and the brave,” works to prosecute and imprison organizers of the last sailboat race to Cuba.  Worst of all, after their initial prosecution attempt was thrown out by a federal judge, the goveenment is now working to again trump up other charges.  Such federal “persecution” should be anathama to all those who ascribe to the tenents of liberty and freedom enshrined in the constitution.  The small minded and mean spirited men and women who carry out this form of extra-legal abuse should be ashamed, and condemned roundly by all quarters.  Of such things true tyranny is born.
