Havana.- Musical groups from Japan, France, Mexico and Italy will participate in the 42nd “Pepe Sánchez” Trova Festival, scheduled for this month in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba.

The festival will be dedicated to the New Song Movement founded three decades ago by such singer-songwriters as Silvio Rodríguez, Noel Nicola, Pablo Milanes and Vicente Feliú.

Sources from the organizing committee said that on this occasion, the groups “Son de Oriente”, from Japan, and “Chekere”, from France, will perform at the festival.

Cuba will be represented by Eliades Ochoa, winner of a Latin Grammy Award, as well as Augusto Blanca, Jose Aquiles, Gerardo Aldana and Voces del Caney.

Other artists from Santiago de Cuba, considered the birthplace of Cuba’s trova movement, are Las Hermanas Sáez, Mario Zamora, Josue Oliva, Estudiantina Invasora and Rene Urquijo, among others.
