Cuba to Participate in Pan-American Junior Baseball Championship
Havana.- The largest Antillean Island will participate in the Pan-American Junior Baseball Championship, scheduled for July in Curacao.
The event, at which the best teams will classify for the World Tournament in Taiwan in 2004, will be attended by 12 teams who will compete in two groups.
Group A is made up of the Netherlands Antilles, Brazil, Bahamas, the United States, Aruba and Venezuela, while group B will be composed of Panama, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba and Canada.
According to the official program of the preliminary phase, the Cubans will debut against Canada on July 13, and will play against Mexico on the 14th, Panama on the 15th, the Dominican Republic on the 16th and Puerto Rico on the 17th.
The regional championship will be played under an all-out system in the classificatory phase, and the best four teams in each group will classify for the quarterfinals.
The winners will pass to the semifinals and then the winners will compete for the continental title in the finals. The losers will play for the bronze medal.
