Havana.- The Cuban women’s volleyball team is in Group A of the Grand Prix of that sports discipline, scheduled to begin this month in Italy.
According to a report from the International Volleyball Federation, the Cubans will seek to classify for the final round against Italy (the defending world champion), United States, Japan, Netherlands and Germany, in an all-out one-round schedule.
Group B is made up of Russia (the world champion in 2002), China, Canada, South Korea, Thailand and Brazil.
After the preliminary phase in the cities of Puglia and Basilicata, two regions in southern Italy, the finals will be held at Andria’s Palasport on August 2 and 3.
The event, which is traditionally held in Asia, was transferred to Europe this year due to the outbreak of atypical pneumonia that affected several Asian countries.
