Havana.- Women’s basketball teams from Cuba and the United States will hold a series of games in this capital in late February.
According to Cuban basketball officials, the games are part of the US team’s training program prior to the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, next summer.
The US team is headed by Lisa Leslie and Sheryl Swoopes, two-time Olympic champions and players in their country’s professional league.
Other team members are Tamika Catchings (Indiana Fever), Shanon Johnson (Conneticut Sun), Sue Bird (Seattle Storm) and Katie Smith (Minnesota Linx).
The other players are Tina Thompson (Houston Comets), DeLisha Milton and Michele Teasley (Los Angeles Spark), Swin Cash and Sheryl Ford (Detroit Shock).
The United States will make its debut against New Zealand on Saturday, August 14, at the basketball tournament of the Olympic Games, for which the Cuban team did not qualify.
