Some 90 artists from Latin America and Europe have donated works to the online Art for Cuba expo-sale organized by Cuban actor and painter Jorge Perugorria to rise funds to restore hurricane-stricken Gibara city, Holguin.

Including 70 paintings, 22 engravings, five sculptures and nine photographs the catalog has 106 works of art.

Engravers, sculptors, photographers and painters have answered the call by Cuban Oscar nominee for “Strawberry and Chocolate” (1994) Jorge Perugorria on the webpage ArtePorCuba.com opened on October 5 at Casa Lam in Mexico.

Gibara is a small Cuban city that was devastated by hurricane Ike on September 2008, best known for hosting the International Low-Budget Film Festival founded in 2003 by recently deceased Cuban filmmaker Humberto Solas.

“Almas gemelas II” by Venezuelan Katiuska Zambrano, the collage Azul by Spanish Lia Kaufman, and “S/T” by Cuban Javier Labrador Deulofeu are some of the pieces recently donated.

Luis Camnitzer (Germany), Jesus Ochoa Gandara (Mexico) and Juan Anibal Barron Carranza (Peru) also donated pieces to the site.

Among the works already sold are “Nostalgy”, lithography made by Yoan Capote (Cuba); “Topen eso”, aquatint by Luis Miguel Valdes Gonzalez (Cuba), and “Ocean” and “Roads”, two silk screens by Perugorria.
