Legislation Now Heads to Senate

House Bill 685 sponsored by Representative Eddy González (R-Hialeah) was approved today by the Florida House of Representatives and is now awaiting passage in the Senate. The bill bans doctors trained in Fidel Castro’s apartheid medical schools from practicing medicine in Florida.

“Our students should not be contributing to, nor legitimizing such a blatant system of apartheid, nor should they be used in what is merely a propaganda and public relations ploy by a sworn enemy of America, which shares the unsavory distinction of other rogue states such as Iran and North Korea of being included on the State Department’s list of terrorist nations. I am certain that most Americans would cringe at the thought of their children participating in a Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or Kim Jong-il Scholarship Program,” said Representative González. “Someone who puts their integrity aside, puts blinders on to the human rights abuses, ignores the hundreds of thousands of people executed, murdered, tortured or imprisoned by the Castro Regime, and goes to Cuba to receive a free medical degree from one of the last bastions of communist tyranny, doesn’t deserve the privilege to practice as a doctor in Florida.” Stated Rep. Eddy Gonzalez.
The vote was 107-3, with overwhelming bipartisan support.

I guess Florida doesn’t have more important things to vote on?

What a joke and who cares?! That’s my reaction.

I think I read somewhere that there might be eight Americans in Florida that were trained in Cuban medical schools.

Yet again the Cuban Americans are restricting all Americans’ freedoms. Simple as that.

Now what happens when a Cuban American’s relative who is a Cuban doctor makes it to the US to live in exile? Now they can’t practice medicine so are they going to drive a cab?

Just another lose/lose from the Cuban American community.

Sorry if I offend Cuban Americans but these are your politicians making up stupid laws that are designed to somehow punish Fidel.

Hey maybe next year the Embargo will work, right?

Publisher I agree, comparisons with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or Kim Jong-il don’t sit at all comfortably and warrent closer scrutiny. Hundreds of thousands of people murdered, tortured, executed or imprisoned?, is this guy talking about Fidel, the USA’s foreign policies over the years or the effects of religion?

It’s dinosaurs like this that give your country a deeply negative image around the world. I think a ten year spell in the clink for Gonzalez would do your country and him a power of good, he may even start to develop his pea sized brain into something worthwhile. Hey, send him to Guantanamo.

It’s the lose of the Florida people these fine doctors can’t work in Florida. They will be more then welcome in other states. I guess the members of the Florida House of Representatives has more the need of a shrink.

I don’t know if they’d be welcome in other states either. A friend of mine, who is UC Berkeley educated, denied it when I called it to his attention that Americans have been graduating from Cuban med school. When I finally got through to him, he told me they’d probably then only be allowed to practice in low income/the worst areas of the States. And this guy lives in California—one of the “progressive” states. Judging by what I hear from my friends in the States, it would appear that Miami is “news central” for the country when it comes to Cuba. In Cuba I heard it described as “expensive propaganda.”

Addendum to above post….  I neglected to say what his initial remark in this conversation was. He told me, in no uncertain terms, that “All the good Cuban doctors have left for Miami!” And, this is an educated man!

What is even scarier is that it passed 107-3 making the bills sponsor one of 108 narrow minded Floridians.  If we had any doubt about the Cuban American influence in FLorida that doubt is removed.  If one of these politicos was in dire need of medical attention or would bleed to death I wonder what he would say if the only nearby medical help was an non US licensed ex Cuban medical school grad.  Florida politicians prove that “Ignorance is not bliss”!

It’s a disgrace that this passed 107-3.  That only shows how cruel, narrow-minded, and shameful these Miami politicians are.  And to think they spend money trying to get Cuban doctors to DEFECT and come to the U.S.!  Of course, all this nonsense is probably just a ploy to distract everyone’s attention from where it SHOULD BE—-namely, that these same politicians have neglected their duty to the people of Florida.  Lincoln Balart’s district is high up on the list in foreclosures, but he’s failed to do anything about it because he’s too busy with anything that has to do with punishing Cuba (even if it’s to the detriment of our own people here in Florida).  And for that we give him our taxpayer dollars…..shameful indeed.

I’m curious….  Are Cuban, trained in Cuba, doctors allowed to practice in the States?

Yes but soon to be NO in Florida. Too bad for the people of Florida. No big deal for Fidel.

How ridiculous and, yes, a tragedy for the people of Florida. I apologise if I’m in the wrong place for questions…. So, the legislation doesn’t just cover American students in Cuba but all doctors trained in Cuba. When the legislation passes, will the Cuban doctors have to give up their practices?

If you read the bill correctly you would understand that it only applies to americans accepting fidel’s scholarships, this does not apply to cubans who leave the island and have a medical degree, get the facts right. liberals always want to glorify fidel and make the exile community the “bad guys”. Well you obviously did not suffer at the hands of this regime.
