A Miami-Dade County Florida jury Friday awarded more than $250 million to the family of a Cuban-American who died in prison 30 years ago.

Rafael del Pino Siero, who was a U.S. citizen, had been a close friend of Fidel Castro but broke with him before the Cuban revolution.

Del Pino was arrested shortly after Castro came to power, after he landed a small plane on a highway to rescue a friend. He spent several years in prison, where he died.

The Miami jury said it wanted to send Cuba a message with its big award to Del Pino’s family that it has a responsibility for human rights, the Miami Herald reported.

I don’t know the details of this lawsuit but it sounds like a shameful award.

Also, I don’t understand how this person was a US citizen being a friend of Fidel Castro and then arrested shortly after the Revolution?

And… why now? Why is there a lawsuit 30 years after this man’s death?

Where are the funds coming from? Cuban assets?

Let’s hope the family does something very honorable with ALL the money they get.

Thank God there is little chance that those SOB’s will probably never collect a cent of that money.  The Cuban government should sue the U.S for deaths and destruction they caused during the Bay of Pigs!

Wow, imagine if the U.S. had to pay for every Iraqi who died in captivity.  Or for that matter.....the thousands of children who’ve died in the past five years of this “war.”

Only in Miami would a jury award $250 million for someone who died in jail.  It simply boggles the mind.
