The new Havana yellow pages are circulating through Havana.

The quality is what you would expect from any major city yellow pages but it is very thin at only 3/8” thick and just under 200 pages.

The Paginas Amarillas/Directorio Telefonico de Cuba, La Habana edition is an interesting subject read for many reasons.

1. There have not been “yellow pages” in Havana since 1959 as far as I know.

2. This is published by Etecsa, the Cuban government run phone company, featuring hundreds of private businesses in Cuba so this is an official step into Capitalism for the Cuban government.

3. There are 27 blue pages listing departments and phone numbers for dozens of Cuban government ministries.

4. There are 55 green pages loaded with information about other government entities.

5. There are about 80 yellow pages featuring hundreds of private businesses in just about every category that you would find in any major city yellow pages.

6. However, this is a VERY thin yellow page section for a city of more than one million people. Notice there are only three listings for lawyers in all of Havana.

7. Embargo? What embargo? Although most Cuban people may not be able to afford new Chinese made appliances, Haier bought the full back cover of the Havana yellow pages.

8. Let’s hope the 2013 Havana yellow pages is MUCH thicker grin
