Cuba suspends package delivery to the United States

Due to new security measures imposed by the United States on all incoming packages, the Cuban government has indefinitely suspended package deliveries to Cuba.

This does not include letters weighing less than 16 ounces.

Announced on Cuban television, the Cuban package delivery service, CubaPack, a division of Cimex, will no longer accept any packages bound for the US.

Due to the US Embargo on Cuba, currently all outgoing packages shipped from Cuba to the US must go through Mexico or Canada. However, shipping packages out of Cuba via DHL to the US has restrictions within Cuba and is not related to latest decision.

Last month, US Customs discovered and seized thousands of Cuban cigars. Since two packages with bombs were sent from Yemen to the US, the United States Customs and Border Patrol has been screening all incoming parcels. This has resulted in the discovery of tens of thousands of Cuban cigars and has caused the US to either slow down or refuse entry of packages shipped from Cuba and other countries.

Therefore, this decision by Cuba was due more to US restrictions than some Cuban government imposed restriction on its citizens.

Meanwhile, the AFP is reporting that the US State Department denied Cuba’s claims that the US postal service had returned mail to the island saying US authorities have “not imposed restrictions on such mail and that the interruption “may be due to the return of US-bound mail by third country air carriers unable to transport it to destination and who may thus be declining to carry any mail, including from Cuba, to the United States.”

In September 2009, officials from both countries met for a first round of talks to re-establish a direct mail service.

This is REALLY stupid on the part of President Obama——BLOCKING my weekly ENGLISH edition of GRANMA from Cuba on 1/22/2011 contrasted with his 1/14/2011 decision to “ease Cuba travel restrictions from US to Cuba.” So, NOW I can
fly direct on commercial flights from RDU to Jose Marti in Havana but I can’t receive in MY USPS mail my weekly SUBSCRIPTION to GRANMA.

Go figure! Will someone please explain the logic of this move by Obama?

Does he even THINK about what he’s doing?

The US tightened security on cargo packages over 16 ounces but Cuba made the decision to stop the mail, not President Obama.

Mail from Cuba weighing less than 16 ounces should not be affected.

What both governments have to do is Forget and Forgive one each other and open the relationship among each other. Open businesses, travel, investments, etc.

I do not see why we have to make any big deal about any thing, that would do any difference with any other country. The faster Cuba moves the more freedom we will see, and the better social projects that will work.

I see a lot of mainland china chinese in Miami. Specially at the University of Miami either going to school at the main campus or working or studying at the Jackson Memorial Campus. I don’t mean one. I see them by the dozen in the metrorail cars.

Soon hope to see cuban students from Cuba studing in University of Miami, and the Cuba extreme right would have to sit down and shut up.

Hablando las gentes se entiende, menos entre cubanos de la isla y los de la yuma.
