Cuba will increase zeolite exports to the European market, as part of efforts to diversify foreign trade.

The plant Agrisel, in central Cuba, will resume processing 1,000 tons of zeolite for Europe’s agricultural sector.

The company will supply the product, which is enriched with potassium, phosphate and nitrogen to create a substratum that is used to speed up growth of vegetables.

In addition, enriched zeolite and phosphorite are the raw materials used to make “hidropsil”, which is used in the in golf course holes.

A natural compound containing zeolite as the main ingredient will be exported to European countries to protect apples, pears, grapes and strawberries from insects.

The plant processes zeolite to produce fertilizers used in potato, tobacco and vegetable crops in Cuba, meeting the domestic demand for that product.
