Congress tourism is one of the most attractive options in Cuba’s leisure industry, which has an excellent infrastructure to develop that activity.

From January to August 2005, Cuba hosted 191 meetings, which were attended by 24,400 delegates.

Although the number of meetings dropped 17.6 percent, participation of foreign delegates increased 10 percent, compared to the same period last year.

The City of Havana is the main venue of international events, hosting 66 percent of all meetings, followed by Matanzas, the capital of the western province of the same name, and Santiago de Cuba.

In 2004, Cuba hosted 381 international meetings, 232 of which were held from January to August and were attended by 22,000 foreign participants.

According to this year’s timetable, 373 international meetings will be held in 2005.
