South Korea KOTRA opens office in Cuba’s Miramar Trade Center

South Korea, one of the fastest-growing Asian economies at present, is boosting trade and cooperation with Cuba.

With that goal in mind, the Seoul-based Agency for Trade and Investment Promotion (KOTRA) opened an office at Havana’s Miramar Trade Center.

KOTRA has 105 representative offices in 75 countries, and its presence in Cuba is aimed at benefiting from the local market’s potential.

Cuba is little known among South Korean businesspeople, experts said, so the office will contribute to spreading information and encouraging bilateral contacts.

In 2002, KOTRA signed cooperation agreements with the Cuban centers for Export Promotion and for Investment Promotion, and with the Chamber of Commerce.

South Korean entrepreneurs are interested in Cuba’s agricultural sector, especially sugar and tropical fruit, in addition to oil, nickel and the biotechnological industry.
