Havana.- Skilled construction workers started the civil works of a hydroelectric plant in the Zaza dam, which can hold over one billion cubic meters of water.

The project, carried out in conjunction with the People’s Republic of China, includes the construction of engine facilities, and the so-called balance smokestack, which is 23 meters high and 12 meters wide.

Previously, a new water bypass was constructed and pipes were laid in the old underground gallery, which will be used to channel the water to the generators or to deviate the flow from them.

The plant will produce a maximum of 2.75 megawatts/hour, for which 40 cubic meters per second of water will run through the master canal.

The equipment and technological projects were made in China by virtue of a collaboration agreement that includes the construction of five other similar plants to take advantage of hydraulic energy in a similar number of dams in central and eastern Cuba.
